E&I Campaign Launches PR Effort Urging Gulf Coast Action by the Next President Baton Rouge, LA – To coincide with the second Presidential debate being held this evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the Equity and Inclusion Campaign announced today that they have placed a full-page ad in The Tennessean newspaper to challenge either a McCain or an Obama administration to take immediate action in the first 100-days of their administration to make Gulf Coast recovery a national priority. The E & I Campaign also announced that it is launching a public online petition drive on its website, www.equityandinclusion.org, recommending that the next president seize the opportunities available to renew and rebuild a better Gulf Coast.
“The Equity and Inclusion Campaign placed this full-page ad in The Tennessean in hopes of having the candidates specifically articulate tonight for the American people what they would do in the first 100-days of their administration on Gulf Coast recovery efforts,” said Jainey Bavishi, Campaign Manager for the Equity and Inclusion Campaign. “We are also launching our online petition drive to provide a channel for Gulf Coast allies and advocates to challenge the next administration to not forget about the thousands of citizens from disenfranchised communities struggling to recover from the 2005 hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast. Disaster recovery and rebuilding must be at the top of the domestic agenda of the next president and should be a part of any first 100-days plan of a President McCain or President Obama administration,” continued Ms. Bavishi.
The petition emphasizes the five planks of the Equity and Inclusion Campaign: better housing opportunities; protection for the environment and building a sound infrastructure system; job creation and business development; quality health care; and improved education.
“It is our hope that this petition will demonstrate to the new administration that there are thousands of Americans who see true opportunity for innovation as we rebuild the Gulf Coast,” concluded Ms. Bavishi.
A copy of The Tennessean ad is attached and the petition is available for viewing and signing at www.equityandinclusion.org.
