 Narratives of Hope and Struggle

The Fifth Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina marks a day of hope, commemoration, and resilience.  The Equity and Inclusion Campaign honors the lives of those we lost, as well as the families and communities across the Gulf Coast that have demonstrated so much strength in the face of adversity.

We continue together as a coalition and community, to amplify our voices and the needs for change, as well as to celebrate the tremendous milestones and victories we have together met.  We remain committed to the collective effort of undoing the poverty that the hurricane revealed, while recognizing that together we are stronger, and that our commitment, labor and even love must be sustained over time.

As we continue to grow, to advance, to increase the number of people advocating on their own behalf and with ever expanding skill, we commit ourselves to upholding the dignity, the resilience and the human rights of individuals, to together build a better Gulf Coast.

The Equity and Inclusion Campaign is a nonpartisan policy advocacy and public messaging campaign advocating for fulfillment of the federal commitment to confront persistent poverty and inequity during the Gulf Coast recovery and rebuilding process.   The vision for the Equity and Inclusion Campaign is to establish sustainable Gulf Coast communities characterized by economic, social and environmental fairness.   The Campaign is working to effect systemic change so that all people are included, valued and empowered.
